Health and well being plays a big part in enjoying the latter years in life more so than in the first fifty. The children have reached adulthood and you are looking forward to having grandchildren and your retirement years. Unless you have a wealth of good health retirement will not be what you wish it to be. It is time to aim high again just like you did when you were just married. Aim high again for the day you will finish your working life. Do not aim to just sit in front of a TV with a glass in your hand all day etc.

Fifty to sixty years ago men especially retired from the workforce and for the next six months they sat in front of the new trend of day time TV with a glass and a full plate enjoying their retirement for six months but were then buried six foot under. I have seen people in high places in good health and when things went bad for them they stressed in a big way. Next thing they ended up dying from all sorts of illness, heart, cancer, etc.
Stress brings on all sorts of illness very quickly.
Keeping active when retired by pottering around your home doing small improvements keep us young in mind, body and spirit. Joining local groups helps our social life and keeps our mentality on an upward trend this day and age with dementia getting worse in society.
